14-Year-Old Girl Arrested for Arson After Fatal House Fire in Leicester
Leicestershire Police have called a recent house fire in Leicester an “extremely tragic incident.” They have not yet shared details about the person who died or if they were related to the girl who has been arrested.
The Fire
The fire occurred at a home on Bedale Drive, Leicester, just after 4 a.m. on Tuesday. Emergency services found a person dead inside the house. Other people in the home were taken to the hospital as a precaution.
The Arrest
A 14-year-old girl has been arrested on suspicion of arson in connection with the fire. She has been released on bail while the investigation is ongoing. Police have said they are open-minded about what led to the incident.
Investigation Details
Police were alerted to the fire by Leicestershire Fire and Rescue Service at 4:08 a.m. on Tuesday. Officers have not disclosed the identity of the deceased or their relationship to the arrested girl.
Detective Inspector Michael Chandler commented, “This is an extremely tragic incident in which a person has sadly lost their life. Our investigation is still in its early stages, and we keep an open mind about the cause of the fire.”
Community Impact
DI Chandler also noted the impact on the local community, saying, “We understand this incident will have caused distress and concern in the community. Officers are remaining in the area to offer support and reassurance.”
Fire Service Response
Leicestershire Fire and Rescue Service was called at 4:02 a.m. and sent around 25 firefighters from four stations. They used two hose reel jets and an aerial ladder platform to control the fire.
Current Situation
The house’s roof is damaged at the scene on Bedale Drive. Investigation teams, including fire investigation dogs, are present. Forensic experts are working at the site, and police have set up a cordon. Neighbours have left flowers and toys as tributes outside the house.
