Six People Arrested After Baby Dies in Hit-and-Run Accident

Police Search for Car That Didn’t Stop After Accident

Six people have been arrested after a tragic accident in Lancashire, where a newborn baby died, and the baby’s mother is in serious condition.

What Happened?

A woman in her 30s, who was pregnant, was walking across a pedestrian crossing in the village of Bamber Bridge on Sunday. While crossing, a car hit her. She was taken to the hospital, where doctors delivered her baby, but sadly, the baby passed away shortly after being born. The mother is still in the hospital and is in critical condition.

Arrests Made

The police have arrested six people in connection with this incident. The arrested individuals include:

  • A 17-year-old girl from Lostock Hall
  • A 19-year-old man from Bolton
  • A 40-year-old man from Blackburn

These three people are suspected of helping the driver and trying to hide the crime. They are still being held by the police.

In addition, two boys, aged 15 and 17, and a 53-year-old man have been arrested and later released on bail while the investigation continues.

Statement from the Police

Detective Chief Inspector Jill Riley called the accident “heartbreaking” and expressed her sympathy for the family. She also mentioned that the investigation is moving forward, but they are still looking for more information. The police are asking for anyone who might have video footage or details about the crash to come forward to help piece together what happened.

The Car Involved

The car involved in the accident is believed to be a dark-grey Toyota Prius with the registration number FY62 MXC. The driver did not stop after the accident, and the police are still searching for the vehicle.
