Man In Wheelchair Stabbed To Death In East London
In a tragic incident in East London, two men have been arrested following the fatal stabbing of Jade Anthony Barnett, a 38-year-old man who used a wheelchair. The men, aged 28 and 21, are currently in custody at an East London police station as investigations continue.
Incident Details:
On Wednesday afternoon, the Metropolitan Police were alerted to reports of a fight on Rushmore Road, Clapton, at approximately 3:38 pm. Upon arrival, they found Mr. Barnett suffering from a stab wound. Despite the best efforts of paramedics from the London Ambulance Service, Mr. Barnett was sadly pronounced dead at the scene.

Jade’s sister, Simone Barnett, 45, from Hackney, spoke fondly of her brother, describing him as a “cheerful and caring” individual who always brought joy to those around him. She shared that Jade had lived with their mother in Clapton before moving to Stratford. Jade was well-known in the community, having lost his leg in a motorcycle accident in 2007. Despite his challenges, he remained a beloved figure in the neighbourhood.
“Everyone knew my brother,” Simone said. “Young, old, mothers, fathers—he was just that kind of person who could connect with anyone.”
Scene and Investigation:
Late Wednesday evening, a black and grey electric wheelchair believed to belong to Mr. Barnett was seen behind a police cordon near a forensics tent. The area around Overbury Street and Rushmore Road remains cordoned off as police continue their investigation.
Detective Chief Superintendent James Conway, leading the investigation, emphasized that the inquiry is still in its early stages. He expressed gratitude to the residents of Clapton for their patience as the investigation proceeded and extended heartfelt condolences to the victim’s family.
“Our thoughts are with the family of the victim during this difficult time,” said DCS Conway. “We urge anyone with information about this tragic incident to come forward and assist with our investigation.”
The Metropolitan Police have assured the public that there will be a continued and significant police presence in the area as detectives work diligently to uncover the incident’s circumstances.
