UK Weather: Weekend to Be Warmer, But Will It Stay That Way Next Week?
This weekend, the weather in the UK is expected to get warmer after a freezing Thursday night.
Cold Temperatures Overnight On Thursday night, all four countries in the UK—England, Scotland, Wales, and Northern Ireland—experienced temperatures that dropped below 0°C (32°F). Topcliffe in North Yorkshire was the coldest place, where the temperature fell to -2.7°C (27°F). According to the Met Office, this frost was due to cold air coming from the Arctic.
It was the earliest frost seen in southern Wales in September 2019.
Another Frosty Night Expected On Friday night, clear skies over England and Wales could lead to another cold night, with frost, especially in the southern areas. However, the weekend will bring warmer weather, with many parts of the UK seeing temperatures reaching up to 20°C (68°F). Most places will have dry and fine weather.
What to Expect This Weekend Joanna Robinson, a Sky weather expert, explained that warmer winds from the southwest will replace the cold, northerly winds. This change will help bring temperatures back to normal for this time of year.
Saturday will be mild and sunny for most of the UK, although northern areas might experience some wind and rain.
Looking Ahead to Next Week Next week, temperatures are expected to continue rising, with highs reaching the low 20s°C (68°F) in southern parts of the UK by Tuesday. This is a few degrees above the average for September.
Weather in Europe Joanna also mentioned that central Europe could face heavy rain and severe thunderstorms in the coming days. Rare red weather warnings have been issued for southern Poland, Austria, the Czech Republic, western Hungary, and Slovakia. These places could see extreme rainfall, with up to 300mm (12 inches) of rain, and parts of the Alps might get over a metre of snow. There’s concern about serious flooding, which could happen once a century.
In summary, the UK will enjoy milder weather this weekend, but some areas of Europe might see severe storms and heavy rainfall.
