[VIDEO] Police Officer Struck with Brick in Blackpool – “Put the brick down.”
A police chief has emphasized the daily dangers faced by officers, following the circulation of a video showing a cop being struck in the face with a brick.
Video footage shown below.
The incident occurred on Friday evening in Blackpool, as emergency services responded to an officer being hit in the face during an investigation into a series of robberies in the area.
Two men have since been arrested in connection with the incident after the video gained attention on social media.
The dramatic footage shows a man holding a brick while being apprehended by two officers, with one of the officers shouting, “put the brick down.” As the male officer attempts to restrain the suspect from behind, the man suddenly strikes the officer in the forehead with the brick and then flees, leaving the injured policeman clutching his head in pain.
While the female officer pursues the suspect, the injured officer is seen lying on a car bonnet in pain before slowly making his way back to the police van.
Assistant Chief Constable Karen Edwards of Blackpool Police spoke out about the incident, saying it highlights the challenges police officers face daily.
“While working tirelessly to keep Lancashire’s communities safe, one of our officers has been assaulted, resulting in a significant head injury,” Ms. Edwards said. “Assaulting police officers is completely unacceptable and again demonstrates the dangers that officers face every single day.”
Blackpool Police released a statement addressing the video: “We are aware of a video circulating on social media showing one of our officers being assaulted in Blackpool, and we want to provide some context.
