Teen Charged With Murder Of 80-Year-Old Dog Walker In Leicestershire Park
A 14-year-old boy has been charged with the murder of an 80-year-old man, Bhim Kohli, who was attacked while walking his dog in a park. The incident took place in Franklin Park, close to Bhim’s home in Braunstone Town, Leicestershire. Bhim, who was walking his dog, Rocky, was assaulted on Sunday evening and tragically passed away the next day in the hospital from his injuries.
Court Appearance
The teenage boy appeared in Leicester Magistrates’ Court on Thursday. Due to his age, his identity cannot be made public. In court, the boy only spoke to confirm his name and date of birth. He has been held in custody and will make another court appearance at Leicester Crown Court later that same day.
Arrests and Investigation
Leicestershire Police initially arrested four other children in connection with the attack: a 14-year-old girl, two girls, and one boy, all aged 12. However, these children were released with no further legal action.
A post-mortem examination revealed that Bhim Kohli died from a neck injury, though more tests are still being done to understand the full cause of his death.
Family’s Heartfelt Tribute
Bhim’s family paid tribute to him, describing him as a “loving and caring” person. His family shared that Bhim loved walking their dog several times a day and that he was always a hardworking man, even at the age of 80. His family said, “He was a loving husband, father, and grandfather. He adored his grandchildren and always put his family first.”
Police Conduct Investigation
Leicestershire Police confirmed that they had previous contact with Bhim Kohli before his death. As a result, they made a referral to the Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC). Following further discussions with the IOPC, this referral was upgraded to a mandatory investigation.
